Edward Wilson
Edward graduated in History from Hull University in 2006 and went on to do an MSc in Operations and Supply Chain Management at Liverpool University. He started the EWS graduate training scheme on 1st October 2007.
Here’s his experience so far:
“The first year consisted mostly of training courses such as train driving and ground-staff duties. With no previous experience on the railway this proved exciting and has subsequently been very beneficial to my career within EWS.
Part of the training also consisted of a 10-week placement in Margam, South Wales. I’ve had the opportunity to take on a number of projects which allowed me to apply my knowledge gained through my MSc. The projects were very rewarding and allowed me to obtain a broad insight into the rail-freight business.
Although my role is operational, part of my training has included visiting the various departments within the organisation, such as Finance and HR. This was extremely helpful because it allowed me to appreciate the other functions and have a taste for what other opportunities are available.
The support given throughout the training has been second to none and I would recommend the EWS graduate training scheme to anyone wanting a varied and exciting career in a company that is ever-expanding.”
